Mary J. Blige will be honored McDonald during the 365Black Awards at the annual Essence Music Festival in New Orleans July 1.
She’s being recognized for all of her efforts to help at risk women through her organization, Foundation For the Advancement of Women Now (FFAWN). Other recipients of this prominent award are actress Ruby Dee, Radio One founder, Cathy Hughes, NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Jealous and Civil Rights activist McDonald’s owner/operator Henry “Hank” Thomas.
Actress Angela Bassett and radio personality Tom Joyner will hosted by 365Black Awards.

How many times have you sat in your car, in silence, maybe almost in tears wondering ‘what am I doing’? Your life seems to be spiraling out of control.
Lately you are making decisions about your life based on the decisions of others. You think to yourself at first I really want to help them, but then you begin slowly losing yourself in the process.
Then anger, bitterness and resentfulness sets in. Are they the blame for the mess your life is in? Or are you the blame?
YOU are. It is a hard pill to swallow and nobody ever wants to take that medicine.
If you’re lucky, it’s not the end of the world. You will be given another day and opportunity to make the right decision by choosing YOU.
Believe me I know, in some situations its easier said than done. Especially when the person you may have to say ‘no’ to, is someone you love.
There are too many people who live never knowing what it is to do something for themselves, go to college, take a job out of the country, travel extensively or even marry the person they love even though their family/friends hates them.
The price of giving away your power to choose may cost you your happiness, freedom, and moment in time you may never get again.

Rapper/Producer Missy Elliott recently announced she had been diagnosed with Graves Disease 3 years ago. She insists this thyroid disease did not slow her down, even though she has not released an album since The Cookbook.
Missy Elliott also revealed in her statement Friday (June 24) that her condition has improved.
“Under my doctor’s supervision, I’ve been off medication for about a year and I’m completely managing the conditions through diet and exercise,” she said. [CNN]
Although Missy’s health has improved and it can be managed with diet and medication, the disease is incurable.
The rapper is working on her upcoming project Block Party with producer/rapper Timberland.
Graves Disease is an autoimmune disease that leads to over activity of the thyroid gland.
