Newly engaged singer/songwriter The Dream has a new gig as Executive Vice President of Island Def Jam. He announced his news via Twitter earlier this week.
“I wanna Thank everyone at Island Records/DefJam for their faith in me and making me Executive Vice President of Island Records,” The-Dream wrote. “Thank you to my team. My manager Mark Stewart and my attorney Aaron Rosenberg for getting this first step of a goal accomplished. Thanks to Judy. Thank you to my partner Tricky Stewart and the RadioKilla and RedZone Staff. LA Reid, Karen Kwak, Steve Bartels, Joe Barino. Steve Gotlieb and thank you, Universal Chairman, Doug Morris.
“I look forward to the challenge of rebuilding music for not only Island Records, but for Universal Records as a whole. Today I’m humbled and blessed. Terius ‘The-Dream’.”(BallerStatus/Twitter)
Another day, another gig!
Let me tell, I was able to attend the Red Star Soul Concert Series featuring T-Pain and Wale. Both performances were great, but T-Pain really put on a show.
T-Pain performed Michael Jackson classics as well as debuted a new track, “I’m On A Boat”. Besides T-Pain’s performance he had his new group, Sophia Fresh on stage. Don’t let me forget mention, T-Pain’s dancer were great too.

Houston underground artist, Maro has new music, “Real As It Gets”. I actually like this track. Your thoughts.
Also, he released a new mixtape, The Soloist on Tuesday, August 25. I was suppose to post this earlier this week, but better late than never. This new 18-track mixtape features Wes Coas, Droskie, Old School, Fedarro and Dirty B. If you are feeling “Real As It Gets” check out his mixtape now. Click here to purchase the mixtape.
I spotted this video on DimeWars.com and found Kandi and Fantasia shake their booties and bend legs into split. Real stripper moves!
To me the video was done in harmless fun. As soon as the video hit the internet, according Freddyo, Kandi hit Twitter explaining the video and the negative feedback from Fantasia’s management.
This is what Kandi said via Twitter
“Fantasia & I thought the video was funny but her manager didnt approve & I dont wanna do anything that would b hurtful 2 her career. Oh well!”
She also said that
“Fantasia management just didnt think it was a good look. I understood. gotta keep yo self marketable. some people may not think its funny like us”
I did not think the video was bad at all. Kandi and Fantasia seem to be having a great time, like they were old friends.

Here is Mario’s final album cover for his upcoming album, D.N.A. The album is due in stores October 13, 2009.
Are we excited about the album? No not really excited, but I can’t help but wonder what other material Mario’s has on the album. The single,”Break Up” featuring Sean Garrett and Gucci Mane is doing very well and is constant rotation at the radio stations.
We can wait and see!

I posted earlier, Jermaine Hall had been appointed Editor-in-Chief of Vibe magazine and Vibe.com. He chopped it up in an exclusive interview with Mediaite.com,
Challenges of returning to vibe….
Have you been intimidated at all by the task of reinventing, reimagining Vibe?
As far as being intimidated … I’ve always been very confident about anything dealing with editorial, so I’m definitely not intimidated. Actually, as I said before, I’m very excited. I love all the eras of Vibe but one of my favorite eras is Alan Light’s tenure [1994-1997] — the book was at its broadest during that time. I’m looking to recapture that feel, but bring it up to date.
Has it been of comfort to you that you’re working with other Vibe alumni like Len Burnett?
It’s like having a Jedi to guide you through your travels — stories that they can tell, the mistakes that they’ve seen. The thing I love the most is to be able to throw an idea out there and have Len come back and say ‘maybe you should think about it this way.’ There’s a lot of back and forth, and eventually we get on the same page. I also want to bring Brett Wright into that conversation as well because he’s obviously a very important part of what’s going on right now.

Jermaine Hall has been appointed to new Editor-in-Chief of Vibe magazine and Vibe.com properties. He is returning to Vibe after serving most recently as Editor-in-Chief of King magazine, where he increased the its circulation and developed content alliances with AOL’s Black Voices.
Returning to Vibe is like a coming home for him, between 1997-1999 served a Webmaster developing online content and wrote exclusive articles for print and online.
Hall will immediately step in as Editor-in-Chief and be involved in decision making for all editorial aspects of the magazine and digital properties including the highly anticipated November/December Holiday issue under new management as well as Vibe.com immediate re-launch.
“I’m excited to come back to Vibe and honored for the opportunity to bring the brand back to it’s much deserved and highly respected status among both consumers and advertisers,” said Hall. “I am also thrilled to be working with Len Burnett again and to be a part of the bigger team at The Vibe Lifestyle Network. I have no doubt we will create compelling and cutting edge content as we did back in the day.” (BusinessWire)
Wow, Vibe isn’t wasting anytime!

New music, “Forever” from Drake featuring Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Eminem off of the soundtrack, More Than A Game.
Guys, I am telling you I love this track. I am necessarily the biggest Eminem fan however, I am totally feeling him on this track.
The movie is due to hit select theatres October 2, 2009.

Jay Z grabs the cover of the October 2009 edition of XXL magazine. Besides the magazine cover, Jay will be dropping his 11th solo album, The Blueprint 3 which is set to be released September 11.
In this issue, Jay Z speaks on the negative feedback of his track, “D.O.A.”;
“I’m not hating on young people. Like, when people say that, I’m like, What are you talking about? It’s just stupid. I’m not hating on young people… I’m not Bill Russell, [saying] Michael Jordan ain’t shit. I’m saying Lil Wayne and Kanye are like LeBron and Kobe. My job as someone at the forefront of the game is to leave it in a better position than when I came in. Same way that Russell [Simmons] left it to me. ’Cause this thing saved my life. Literally. So I have a responsibility to it karmically. And after that it’s on you. I did my part. I made ‘D.O.A.’ I said it. I made the statement. I made the push. Here, y’all take it from here.”
