U.S. District Judge Martin Feldman was so gracious enough to postpone Lil Wayne’s trial to give them more time to prepare their case. Lil Wayne is facing trial for his copyright infringement trial over his use of folk singer Karma-Ann Swanepoel’s track, “Once”.
He has been accused of illegally sampling the track in his song, “I Feel Like Dying”. This particulare song was not included on Wayne’s album, Tha Carter III, however it was used in its promotion.
Swanepoel filed suit against Lil Wayne earlier this year (2009) and the case was due to go to trial in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 26, 2009. During a hearing on Tuesday (August 11), U.S. District Judge Martin Feldman approved the defendants’ request to postpone the trial to give them more time to prepare, although a new start date has yet to be set.
Lil Wayne denied selecting the song in question to be used on his track and has filed suit against producers at Rebel Rock Productions Inc. for failing to clear the sample first.
