Bad Boy Records is being sued by Kirby Shields over copyright infringement claim involving Diddy’s group, Day 26, album, Forever In A Day.
In a copyright infringement notice fired off to Bad Boy Records — the company ran and founded by Diddy — singer Kirby Shields alleges his song “I’m Just Getting Started” is “identical” to Day 26′s “Just Getting Started,” released in April.
And here’s the rub: Shields says the copycat track was produced by Christian Davis Stalnecker, the same producer he hired to work “exclusively” for him back in ’07.(TMZ)
Kirby Shields alleges the song, “Just Getting Started” performed by Day 26 infringed on his song, “I’m Just Getting Started”.
According to court documents, Shields paid to Stalnecker $35,000 to complete and deliver 13 songs which included “I’m Just Getting Started”. In the original “work made for hire” agreement it specifically states, “…in no event shall Producer [Stalnecker] resell, reuse, or profit in any way from subsequent use of the Masters without the express written consent…of Artist [Shields]“.
Others named in the suit are Atlantic Recording Corporation and Christian Davis Stahlnecker d/b/a Sly Doggie Production.
These days Diddy is beginning to be lawsuit magnet.
