50 Cent Sues Taco Bell
50 Cent is back in court again. But, for a different reason this time.
50 Cent is suing Taco Bell for allegedly using his name in an advertising campaign without his permission.
In the lawsuit, he accuses Taco Bell of “diluting the value of his good name” by using it in conjunction with its 79-89-99 Cent Why Pay More campaign, thereby fooling customers into thinking he had endorsed the franchise. What?
In an open letter published in June 2008, Taco Bell bosses offered to make a $10,000 donation to a charity of 50 Cent’s choice if he agreed to change his name for one day. Also there were stipulations 50 Cent must stop by one the chain’s restaurants and rap his order at the drive-thru window, using a new moniker, 79 Cent, 89 Cent or 99 Cent.
Apparently, 50 Cent never agreed to the terms of this so called “open letter”, but somehow ended up being the star of Taco Bell’s campaign anyway.
Oh well, this may be the most costly ad campaign Taco Bell has ever ran.
